“Nitric Oxide, the Miracle Molecule,
affects virtually every physiological function in the body.”
– Beth Shirley, RPh, CCN
Nitric oxide is a vital signaling molecule for our cardiovascular health. It was brought to prominence when the Nobel Prize in Medicine was awarded for its discovery in 1998. Nitric oxide is a vasodilator, helping to reduce blood pressure and increase oxygen in the blood. It acts as a messenger molecule, telling blood vessels to widen or dilate, and contract or relax. With enough Nitric Oxide, blood vessels can relax and widen allowing blood to flow from and to the heart. We all make nitric oxide in our bodies, but it starts to diminish as we age. This causes blood vessels to become less elastic, which can reduce the flow of oxygenated blood to vital organs. The good news is that this reduction in NO can be reversed through diet, lifestyle or supplementation.
The Nitric Oxide supplement that I recommend and prescribe for my patients is Berkeley Life Nitric Oxide Support. Berkeley Life delivers the bioactive nutrients found in nitrate-rich, plant-based diets to enhance our body’s production of nitric oxide. Just two capsules of Berkeley Life daily provide the dietary nitrate equivalent of five ounces of spinach.
