Her new book, "Resilient Health: How to Thrive in Our Toxic World," is a roadmap to identifying threats to our food, water, soil and air, and how to minimize exposure. She discusses “forever chemicals” like Teflon and flame retardants; phthalates; glyphosate; BPA/BPS, organophosphates like chlorpyrifos, and insect repellants like pyrethroids. Conventionally trained as a pediatric neurologist, Dr. Porter has a background in Ayurvedic Medicine, having trained with Deepak Chopra; she discusses how the Doshas (vata/pitta/kapha) provide keys to individualize diet, lifestyle, and herbal treatments, and how Ayurveda’s emphasis on detoxification became the basis for her interest in environmental medicine.
